IRCTC steps up drive against unapproved packaged water, food items on trains

Jammu, August 13: As part of the pan India drive launched by IRCTC to stop the sale of unapproved packaged drinking water on trains, IRCTC Regional Office Chandigarh conducted inspections of trains at Jammu Railway Station over the past week, along with other stations including Ambala, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Katra. As part of the ongoing drive, a total of 49 trains were inspected and 2,772 bottles of unapproved packaged drinking water were seized.Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have also been formed to conduct surprise inspections of catering units across Regional Office Chandigarh, headed by the Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC Chandigarh, and the Joint General Manager, IRCTC Chandigarh. In a recently held surprise inspection, 13 cartons of unapproved products; including ice cream and flavoured milk, were seized at Ambala by the QRT headed by CRM, Chandigarh.Authorities said such drives and surprise inspections shall continue regularly until the sale of unapproved products on trains stops under Regional Office Chandigarh, which covers three divisions of Railways: Jammu, Firozpur and Ambala. These efforts are part of the larger initiative launched by IRCTC across India to ensure the sale of only approved products and packaged drinking water on trains.
