REASI POLICE SOLVE THEFT CASE; STOLEN PROPERTY WORTH ₹6.40 LAKH RECOVERED
Demonstrating swift investigation and effective policing, Reasi Police have solved a theft case registered at Police Station Katra by arresting the accused and recovering stolen property worth approximately ₹6.40 lakh, including a gold chain, a mobile phone and cash.On August 7, 2026, complainant Satish Kumar, S/o Rajeshwar Prasad, R/o Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, accompanied by his cousin Alok Kumar Singh, lodged a written complaint at Police Station Katra. He stated that while travelling to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi for pilgrimage, he met an unknown person at Jammu who requested to accompany them, claiming that he had no money. Out of goodwill, the complainant and his cousin allowed him to join them and even arranged an RFID card for him at Katra.The three stayed together at Gautam Lodge, Katra. During the intervening night, while the complainant and his cousin were asleep, the unknown person allegedly fled after stealing ₹25,000 in cash, one Oppo mobile phone worth approximately ₹15,000 along with accessories, and a gold chain weighing about 40 grams (approximately four tolas), valued at around ₹6 lakh.The complainant and his cousin made every effort to trace the suspect but failed. After completing their pilgrimage, they again searched for him upon returning to Katra and subsequently lodged a written complaint at Police Station Katra.Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 268/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Katra, and investigation was immediately taken up.During the investigation, police teams collected and analysed CCTV footage, which led to the identification of the suspect. His photographs were circulated among police units, while technical surveillance and human intelligence generated crucial leads indicating that the accused had fled towards Punjab.A dedicated police team was constituted and deputed to trace and apprehend the accused. Owing to sustained and meticulous efforts, the accused was arrested on August 10, 2026. He was identified as Anil Kumar, S/o Rohan Singh, R/o Malikote, Tehsil Chassana, District Reasi.Based on his disclosure, the stolen property was recovered, including:₹1,300 in cashOne Oppo mobile phone worth approximately ₹15,000One gold chain weighing approximately 40 grams, valued at around ₹6 lakhOne bag containing clothesDuring interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had spent approximately ₹22,700 from the stolen cash on purchasing clothes and travelling to Punjab and Chandigarh.Further investigation into the case is in progress.Reasi Police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims and visitors to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and will continue to act firmly against criminal elements through professional, technology-driven and intelligence-based policing.
