DLSA Jammu acquaints GGHSS Mubarak Mandi students to Child Protection Laws

JAMMU, APRIL 24: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jammu today organized an awareness programme on “Child Protection Laws: Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Child Protection” here at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi. The programme was conducted under the overall guidance of the Chairman DLSA Principal District & Sessions Judge- Jammu R. N. Watal and the active supervision of the Secretary Maleeka Sharma.Ld. Secretary Maleeka Sharma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of child friendly legal mechanisms and spoke about the need to prevent sexual abuse and exploitation of children. “Every child is entitled to safety, dignity and equal protection under the law,’ she stressed and urged the students to be aware of their rights and to speak up against any form of abuse or harassment. The Secretary also highlighted the provision of mandatory reporting and how the burden is more on the educational institutions. The secretary highlighted the objectives and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act.As resource person, Panel Lawyer Advocate Ifra Nasir delivered an informative session on the key provisions of child protection laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and related safeguards. She explained the meaning of sexual abuse, the legal remedies available to children and the role of schools, parents and community members in creating a safe environment for children.The programme included interactive sessions, group discussions and awareness activities in which students, teachers and staff participated actively. The event concluded with students taking a collective pledge to stand against child abuse and uphold the principles of justice, equality and compassion.Through this initiative, DLSA Jammu reaffirmed its commitment to spreading awareness about child protection laws and building a safer, more informed society for children.
