AHMEDABAD, Oct 16: A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad on Tuesday night following a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax, according to officials.
Shortly after takeoff, an unidentified individual tweeted a bomb threat, claiming that an explosive had been placed onboard the aircraft, which was carrying nearly 200 passengers and crew, said an official from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Upon being alerted by the Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC), the pilots made an emergency landing at Ahmedabad, the nearest airport at the time.
“After landing around midnight, security agencies conducted a thorough search of the aircraft. No suspicious items were found, and the flight was cleared to depart for Delhi at around 8 a.m. following a security check,” the official added.
In recent days, multiple flights have faced similar hoax bomb threats. On Monday, three international flights originating from Mumbai were targeted, including a New York-bound Air India flight that was diverted to New Delhi. Two other IndiGo flights were delayed due to similar threats.
On Tuesday, an Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago was diverted to Canada after receiving a bomb threat, while an Air India Express plane from Madurai to Singapore was escorted by fighter jets after a bomb scare.
Authorities are investigating the source of these threats as they continue to disrupt air travel across India and abroad.
