India Urges Peaceful Resolution in Israel-Hamas Conflict at UN Security Counci

UNITED NATIONS, July 18 – India Urges De-escalation, Peaceful Resolution in Israel-Hamas Conflict

India has expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the Israel-Hamas conflict, reiterating its call for de-escalation and emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.

Speaking at the UN Security Council Open Debate on the Middle East, Charge d’Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN Ambassador R Ravindra underscored India’s condemnation of terror attacks on Israel, referencing a deadly incident by Gaza-based Hamas militants last October.

“It has been nine months since the Israel-Hamas conflict, and the continuing humanitarian crisis is deeply concerning,” stated Ambassador Ravindra.

India emphasized the importance of an immediate, full, and complete ceasefire, alongside safe, timely, and sustained humanitarian assistance, with unrestricted access to relief and essential services in Gaza. Ambassador Ravindra also called for the unconditional release of all hostages, acknowledging the constructive roles played by regional countries like Qatar and Egypt.

Highlighting India’s diplomatic efforts, Ambassador Ravindra noted ongoing engagements with both Israeli and Palestinian leaderships. “India stands for peace and stability in the region,” he affirmed, emphasizing India’s longstanding support for a two-state solution. This solution entails the establishment of a sovereign, viable, and independent Palestinian state, living alongside Israel in peace and security.

India’s commitment to Palestine has been demonstrated through developmental assistance amounting to nearly USD 120 million over the years, including a contribution of USD 35 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees
