Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan praised the valor and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Kargil war, marking its 25th anniversary at the ‘Kargil Diwas Honours’ ceremony hosted by TV9 Network in New Delhi. Reflecting on the conflict that ended on July 26, 1999, known as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, General Chauhan emphasized the enduring lessons for the nation’s defense strategy.

Speaking passionately about the historical significance, General Chauhan noted, “The proxy war we witness today is a continuation of the same ideology and mindset that has not changed.” He underscored the importance of learning from past mistakes to fortify national security against future threats.

During the event, General Chauhan presented awards to Kargil war heroes and honored the families of martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. He highlighted the strategic implications of the conflict, stating, “Pakistan’s efforts in Kargil fell short of their aims, reinforcing our commitment to national defense.”

In a forward-looking address, General Chauhan outlined the evolving nature of warfare and stressed the need for India’s armed forces to maintain readiness across multiple domains including land, sea, air, space, information, and cyberspace. He emphasized ongoing efforts towards military integration and the development of future-ready armed forces.

The ‘Kargil Diwas Honours’ ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the bravery and resilience of Indian soldiers, inspiring a new generation to uphold the spirit of sacrifice and dedication in service to the nation.
